The Linton Music Festival lost a very good friend on Thursday morning. Tom Jones, Mayor of Linton, passed away at his home due to heart-related problems.
Tom was a pillar of support for the festival from the very beginning. The idea that became LMF was hatched at his place of business, Linton Sportings Goods, just months before he was elected as Mayor of the City. His countless hours of behind-the-scenes work since helped create funding to ensure that the festival would be free for the community.
To further support LMF, all of the t-shirts sold at the festival since 2005 for our fundraising efforts were provided, free of charge, by Tom and his wife, Patti, on behalf of Linton Sporting Goods. Like so many things he did for his community, he did this without wanting any recognition.
There aren’t enough words that can ever express the amount of gratitude that we, the staff of LMF, have for Tom. The Saturday of this year’s LMF would have been Tom’s birthday. LMF was an event he always looked forward to, even joining The Rock Show on stage in 2009 in singing ‘Welcome to the Jungle,’ as depicted in this photo at right.
Tom was a compassionate man, who deeply loved his family & the community of Linton. The LMF staff would like to dedicate the 2011 Linton Music Festival to Tom. We believe it will be our greatest show yet, and we think Tom will be made very proud by it.
