Festival of Scarecrows

The Linton-Stockton High School Junior Class will be hosting a Festival of Scarecrows to raise funds for their prom. Individuals who live in Greene County are invited to build a scarecrow to be put on display at the park. It is free to enter a scarecrow, and the top four winners will receive a plaque. Creativity is encouraged, but coordinators say it should be somewhat weather resistant and not vulgar.

Scarecrows must be delivered to the park by Sept. 2 at noon. The first three awards will be given that day at 3:15 p.m. for Mayor’s Choice, chosen by Patti Jones, Chief of Police’s Choice, chosen by Troy Jerrell, and Class Officer Choice, chosen by Class President Joie Gadberry.

The top prize, which will be given Sept. 4 at 8 p.m., will be based on public opinion. The scarecrows will have a tin that travels with each of them to collect money. The amount of money each scarecrow makes will count towards the top honor.

Entry forms are available at Hoosier H.I.T. in Linton and the Department of Child Services in Bloomfield.
